Prison Service officer represented Lithuania at CEPOL training course
European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) successfully conducted a specialized training course on Radicalisation in Prisons and Detention Centres which took place in Prague on 17-21 June. The event saw participation from a select group of representatives from EU Member States, focusing on countering violent extremism and terrorism within prisons and detention centres.
Lithuania was represented by two distinguished officials: Ernesta Visockytė, Chief Investigator at Pre-Trial Investigation Unit of the Criminal Intelligence Board of the Lithuanian Prison Service, and an official from the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.
CEPOL, renowned for its comprehensive law enforcement training programs for EU and global officers, brought together national experts from various Member States, including the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, and Austria. These experts, with extensive professional experience, delivered intensive training sessions aimed at equipping participants with the skills necessary to identify and counter radicalisation. The course curriculum covered crucial areas such as information exchange, probation and de-radicalisation techniques, and the implementation of exit programmes.
Through interactive group work and hands-on experiences, participants enhanced their practical knowledge, fostering a shared understanding and coordinated efforts across Member States.
A key highlight of the course was a visit to Jiřice, the first open prison in the Czech Republic, located in the central Bohemian region of Nymburk. Opened in 2017, Jiřice functions as a small, self-contained village-like facility designed to prepare inmates for reintegration into society, thereby reducing re-offending rates.
