Polish Undersecretary of State visits Kaunas Prison
On June 12, a distinguished delegation led by Maria Ejchart, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Poland visited Kaunas Prison of Lithuanian Prison Service. The delegation included Michał Chrościelewski, an expert from the Sentence Enforcement and Probation Department, and Artur Soroko, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius.
The meeting was attended by Rokas Uscila, Deputy Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania, Daniel Ilkevič, Advisor to the Minister of Justice Ewelina Dobrowolska, Ligita Valalytė, Chancellor of Lithuanian Prison Service, Kaunas Prison Governor Mindaugas Zaikauskas, and other representatives.
The delegation visited the halfway house of Kaunas Prison in Domeikava, where they toured the inmates' accommodation and leisure facilities. They were introduced to the activities and objectives of the halfway house, gaining insights into its role in the rehabilitation process.
At Kaunas Prison, located at A. Mickevičiaus g. 11, the prison governor provided a comprehensive tour of the prison facilities. This included a look at the accommodation for pre-trial detainees and inmates, as well as the premises designated for positive employment activities.
The visit highlighted the ongoing and future bilateral cooperation between Poland and Lithuania in the area of prison services.
