Norwegian Ambassador to Lithuania Atle Konta Midttun Visits Lithuanian Prison Service Facilities

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Lithuania, Atle Konta Midttun, paid an official visit to several facilities of the Lithuanian Prison Service, including Pravieniškės Prison No. 1, Kaunas Prison, and the Domeikava Halfway House.

During the visit, Ambassador Midttun was introduced to the ongoing reforms and improvements implemented within the Lithuanian correctional system as part of Norwegian-funded cooperation projects. He toured the TOG unit, engaged in conversations with both inmates and correctional officers, and familiarized himself with current initiatives aimed at enhancing resocialization and rehabilitation processes.

Discussions during the visit focused on key areas such as staff training and professional development, living conditions of inmates, and the challenges faced in daily correctional work. The Ambassador also visited production workshops where inmates are employed, as well as the Employment Center, which underwent a major renovation in 2024.

This visit underscored the strong and long-standing partnership between Lithuania and Norway in the field of corrections. Both countries continue to collaborate closely in sharing experience, best practices, and developing innovative solutions that promote effective resocialization of inmates and strengthen the professional competence of correctional staff.
