Lithuanian Prison Service Delegation Participates in International Conference in Poland

On 19-23 May, a delegation from the Lithuanian Prison Service, led by Deputy Director General Linas Nanartavičius, is participating in the international conference “Challenges of the Modern Legal System” held in Poland to mark the 30th anniversary of WSPiA University of Rzeszów. The event brings together representatives from across the region, including delegations from the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, and Estonia.

The conference agenda focuses on critical issues facing modern correctional systems, covering Polish resocialisation strategies, conditional release mechanisms, and the evolution of electronic monitoring technologies. The Polish Prison Service showcased its extensive experience in implementing electronic monitoring — a system currently supervising more than 18,000 individuals — as a key tool in reducing recidivism and improving offender management. Lively discussions and an open exchange of experiences between countries provided valuable insights into risk management practices and modern approaches to crime prevention.

As part of the visit, the Lithuanian delegation toured the Rzeszów Penitentiary, housing around 1,200 inmates.

The second part of the conference will feature the 16th international shooting competition of Uniformed Services of the Euroregion Karpaty “Lupkowskie Strzelby”. A three-member team from the Lithuanian Prison Service will proudly represent the country in this event.

The Lithuanian Prison Service values this opportunity for international cooperation and experience sharing, recognizing that such engagements play a vital role in enhancing institutional growth and modernising correctional strategies.
