Lithuanian Prison Governors Undertake Internship in Norway
At the end of January, the governors of the prisons of Vilnius, Kaunas, Pravieniškės, Alytus, Marijampolė, Šiauliai, Panevėžys along with Mindaugas Kairys, Director General of the Lithuanian Prison Service, visited the Kingdom of Norway to gain an insight into the correctional system of the country.
The one-week internship, conducted in collaboration with the Norwegian Prison Service, aimed to familiarize Lithuanian prison governors with Norwegian prison infrastructure, technical and engineering solutions, human resource management, work organization, and, most notably, the dynamic security approach used in Norwegian correctional facilities.
During the visit, the delegation toured Kongsvinger Prison to observe its operational structure and inmate rehabilitation programs. Additionally, they visited the Prison Training Academy, where they learned about recruitment processes, staff training procedures, qualification development systems, and managerial training initiatives. Discussions also focused on future cooperation opportunities between Lithuania and Norway in the field of correctional services.
The visit was organised and funded by the EEA-Norway Financial Mechanism.
