Lithuanian experience with the Yellow Ribbon Run presented in Prague
Mindaugas Kairys, Director General of the Lithuanian Prison Service, and Nerijus Sujeta, Head of the Competence Development Board, recently participated in the strategic meeting “Growing European Together - Hub in the Czech Republic” in Prague. During the event, they shared Lithuania’s experience in implementing the Yellow Ribbon Run.
The representatives of the Lithuanian Prison Service provided valuable perspectives for future initiatives and activities, which were well received by international participants. Also, the Lithuanian Prison Service’s efforts in organising the event were met with high praise.
The event welcomed representatives from Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Croatia, Germany and even Singapore, all united by a shared vision to support reintegration and help individuals and their families build a better future and a safer society.
The Yellow Ribbon Run was held for the first time in Lithuania on 5 October 2023, in Kaišiadorys, attracting strong support from various organizations and individuals. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between prisoners, their families, correctional staff, volunteers, and non-governmental organizations by fostering stronger social connections through sports. More than 50 running enthusiasts participated in the event, demonstrating the growing public support for reintegration efforts.
