International Partner Meeting in London Strengthens Women’s Empowerment through Community and Libraries

From 19 to 22 November 2025, the Panevėžys Elena Mezginaitė Public Library, together with representatives of Panevėžys Prison, took part in an international partner meeting in London within the framework of the project “Empowering Women through Community and Library Engagement” (The Europe Challenge 2025/26). The project focuses on supporting and empowering women serving sentences at Panevėžys Prison.

The Panevėžys Prison team was represented by Neringa Jalunskienė, Chief Resocialization Specialist. Alongside international partners, she engaged in discussions on effective approaches to working with women in prison settings, shared professional insights, and exchanged best practices. Particular attention was given to the role of libraries and community spaces in fostering inclusion, learning, and personal development.

Throughout the programme, participants explored innovative social support models aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment. The agenda included collaborative workshops, creative exercises, and practical tasks designed to build competencies and generate new ideas for project implementation. The potential of libraries to serve as safe, welcoming environments that encourage learning, dialogue, and self-confidence was highlighted at the meeting.

The organisations involved expressed strong confidence that the knowledge and experience gained during the meeting will contribute to improving the reintegration of sentenced women, enhancing daily life within the institution, and strengthening long-term cooperation between national and international partners.
