International Erasmus+ Internship in Estonia – Experience and Insights

From 25–29 August 2025, a professional internship took place in Estonia as part of the Erasmus+ project “Enhancing the Competences of Correctional Staff through the Dynamic Security Model.” The internship provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of modern correctional practices and strengthen international cooperation in the field of prison and probation services.

During the program, the participant gained comprehensive knowledge of the Estonian prison and probation system through visits to Viru Prison and its specialized departments, the Rakvere Probation Service, and the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) in Tallinn. The internship offered valuable insights into institutional operations, daily management processes, and the implementation of prisoner rehabilitation and probation supervision practices.

The participant also examined the organizational structures and distribution of responsibilities within the Estonian correctional system, identifying key differences and similarities with the Lithuanian model. In addition, the internship included vocational training sessions, practical exercises, and demonstrations of specialized safety equipment, conducted in close cooperation with Estonian prison and probation staff.

This international experience contributed significantly to the development of professional competencies, enhanced understanding of intercultural cooperation, and reinforced knowledge of the practical application of correctional and resocialization measures based on the principles of dynamic security.
