Halfway House Workshop Produces Camouflage Nets for Ukrainian Defenders
In December, a series of community workshops dedicated to making camouflage nets for the defenders of Ukraine was held at halfway houses in Šiauliai, Kaunas district, and Tauragė. The initiative brought together more than 120 participants, including staff, volunteers, residents of the halfway houses, community members, neighbours, and relatives, fostering a spirit of solidarity and support.
With the assistance of volunteers from the Ukrainian Aid Centre in Klaipėda, participants successfully crafted three 6-meter-long winter camouflage nets. These essential nets will soon be delivered to the frontline, where they will play a critical role in concealing Ukrainian military vehicles from enemy reconnaissance.
Beyond its practical impact, the workshop series served as a valuable opportunity for participants to strengthen community ties and gain insight into the daily lives of halfway house residents.
Halfway houses provide a transitional environment for inmates approaching the end of their prison sentences. Residents, typically housed two years prior to release, engage in work or study programs and may visit their families on weekends. Each halfway house accommodates around 20 residents, and there are currently nine such facilities operating across Lithuania.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this meaningful project!
The halfway houses in Šiauliai, Kaunas district and Tauragė were opened under the Justice and Home Affairs Programme of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants.
