Guests from the Czech Republic Visited Marijampolė and Kaunas Prisons
From 4 to 7 May 2026, the Lithuanian Prison Service hosted a delegation from Rýnovice Prison of the Czech Prison Service. During the visit, representatives from the Czech Republic visited Marijampolė and Kaunas prisons, where they became acquainted with the Lithuanian correctional system, prison operations, rehabilitation activities, and the organization of inmate employment.
On 5 May, the delegation visited Marijampolė Prison and was introduced to the structure and activities of the institution. The guests toured inmate accommodation areas, the industrial sector, the art studio, the chapel, and the Rehabilitation Center. The delegation also visited a canine training center, an open-type prison, and a halfway house, where they learned about rehabilitation initiatives and reintegration measures.
On 6 May, the delegation continued its visit at Kaunas Prison. The guests toured the prison infrastructure, reviewed rehabilitation and resocialization programmes, and learned about the organization of inmate work activities.
During the visit, Lithuanian and Czech prison professionals exchanged practical experience and discussed best practices related to sentence management, inmate rehabilitation, and social reintegration. The visit strengthened professional cooperation between the Lithuanian and Czech prison services and provided an opportunity to share valuable experience in the field of corrections.
