Farewell to Virginijus Kulikauskas, the outgoing Director General of Lithuanian Prison Service

On 9 May, Virginijus Kulikauskas, the outgoing Director General of Lithuanian Prison Service, bid farewell in a ceremonial event.

Representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Lithuanian Police, General Prosecutor's Office, Lithuanian Probation Service, Public Security Service, Special Investigations Service, State Border Guard Service, Financial Crime Investigation Service, as well as social partners, colleagues, prison governors, and the prison Chaplain were among the guests.

The guests recalled the challenges they had overcome together and the unity of purpose. It was highlighted that this period marked an extraordinary phase for both the institution and the correctional system at large. Guests expressed gratitude to V. Kulikauskas for his exemplary leadership, the transformative changes he had spearheaded, and his role in fostering constructive inter-institutional collaboration. They extended their best wishes for his future endeavours. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Lithuanian correctional system, V. Kulikauskas was honoured with the "Golden Cross" Badge of Honour, along with other distinguished institutional awards for his significant efforts in promoting the open and professional correctional system, implementing innovative practices, and strengthening partnerships at both national and international levels.

Prior to his departure, V. Kulikauskas also bid farewell to the prison communities.

V. Kulikauskas tenure officially concluded on 9 May. The heads of central statutory bodies shall be appointed and dismissed by the Government, on the recommendation of the Minister, for a period of five years.
