Erasmus+ Mobility Visit to Sweden
Late last year, staff from the Lithuanian Prison Service participated in the second mobility visit under the Erasmus+ project, Strengthening the Competences of Correctional Staff through the Dynamic Security Model. The visit, which focused on job shadowing in a Swedish prison, was aimed at enhancing professional skills and knowledge of the dynamic security model.
During the week-long mobility, three Lithuanian Prison Service employees from different departments—Tomas Bartninkas, Governor of Marijampolė Prison; Audrė Mišeikienė, Chief Specialist of the Resocialization Coordination Unit; and Daiva Čimbaraitė, Specialist of the Security Management Unit at Kaunas Prison—had the opportunity to observe and learn from Swedish correctional officers. They gained insights into the latest methods, best practices, and challenges related to dynamic security.
At Salberga Prison, a high-security facility, the Lithuanian team was introduced to the prison's infrastructure, officers' operational principles, and key aspects of prisoner resocialization, including sentence management, employment programs, therapy, leisure activities, and the rights of foreign inmates. The participants were involved in daily operations, gaining firsthand experience of Sweden's approach to correctional work.
The Erasmus+ project aims to strengthen the professional competences of Lithuanian correctional staff and students, focusing on the development of the dynamic security model within the national correctional system. The job shadowing programme provided valuable insights into work organization, professional conduct, the use of special measures, cooperation, information exchange, and effective teamwork—all integral to the principles of dynamic security.
The Lithuanian Prison Service representatives highlighted that the visit not only deepened their understanding of the Swedish correctional system but also emphasized the importance of the role correctional officers play in ensuring effective and humane rehabilitation.
