Erasmus+ in Austria: Building Competences through the Dynamic Security Model

From June 2–6, four officers from the Lithuanian Prison Service participated in an Erasmus+ mobility visit to Austria, as part of the project “Enhancing the Competences of Correctional Staff through the Dynamic Security Model”.

Organized by the Planning and Project Unit of the Lithuanian Prison Service, the visit included professional exchanges at the Austrian Correctional Service Academy in Vienna and job shadowing at Karlau and Jakomini prisons in Graz. Participants explored officer training systems, observed daily operations across various security levels, and engaged with prison staff including psychologists, legal experts, and social workers.

The programme highlighted Austria’s innovative resocialisation practices—such as social farming and animal care initiatives—designed to support inmate rehabilitation and reintegration.

This hands-on experience strengthened international cooperation and provided new perspectives and practical ideas to enhance dynamic security approaches within the Lithuanian correctional system.

Thank you to Erasmus+ for supporting cross-border learning and development!
