Agreement Signed to Strengthen Inmate Resocialization
On 21 November 2025, the Lithuanian Prison Service and the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania have signed a grant agreement for the project "Networking for the Successful Resocialization of Inmates and Uniting the Community for Mutual Trust" (No. LTPL00388).
The project will run from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027 with a total budget of EUR 376,876.12. Of this amount, 80% is financed by the European Regional Development Fund, while the remaining 20% is provided by project partners.
The initiative aims to strengthen the resocialization of inmates in the Lithuanian–Polish border region by enhancing inter-institutional cooperation, increasing community involvement, and fostering public trust. A key focus is reducing stigmatization and expanding opportunities for inmates to successfully reintegrate into the labour market.
Project partners include the Lithuanian Prison Service, Lithuanian Probation Service, Regional Inspectorate of the Prison Service in Olsztyn, and the municipalities of Alytus, Kaunas District, and Kaišiadorys.
Planned activities encompass a wide range of initiatives, including training and workshops, community projects such as the renovation of recreational areas and street art initiatives, mutual support groups, international sports events, and public opinion surveys.
Expected outcomes include strengthened inter-institutional cooperation, increased public awareness and confidence in resocialization processes, and the establishment of a sustainable cross-border cooperation network.
