Pravieniškės Inmates Gain Hands-On Training in Hairdressing Basics
On October 21, professional hairdresser Vaigė Petrauskaitė visited Pravieniškės Prison No. 1 of the Lithuanian Prison Service, to share her expertise with inmates participating in a hairdressing training program. This initiative is funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism Project Development of a Quality-Based Lithuanian Correctional Service System.
The session began with a roundtable discussion, where V. Petrauskaitė provided theoretical insights into hairdressing. She covered topics such as safety and hygiene requirements, hair structure, growth patterns, and different haircutting techniques. The second half of the session focused on practical application. Under the supervision of the professional, the inmates practiced cutting each other's hair using trimmers, beard shavers, and scissors, following specific techniques.
The four-hour workshop, organized by Irma Karpavičienė, Coordinator of the Resocialisation Unit at Pravieniškės Prison No. 1, proved to be an enriching and valuable experience for the participants.
The inmates' active participation, engagement in meaningful activities, and teamwork help to build their self-confidence, facilitate their social reintegration, and contribute to their successful rehabilitation.
