Anger Management Programme Training in Kaunas Prison

From November 11 to 15, Kaunas Prison of the Lithuanian Prison Service, hosted the initial training for the Anger Management Programme. The training was conducted by programme trainers Gileta Azaravičienė and Kotryna Mažikytė, with nine professionals from the Social Work and Psychological Intervention Team participating.

The Lithuanian Prison Service (formerly the Prison Department under the Ministry of Justice until January 1, 2023) implemented the Project Development of a Quality-Based Lithuanian Correctional Service System (PDP 3). This project, supported by the EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanisms Programme Justice and Home Affairs 2014–2021, facilitated the adoption of the Anger Management Programme from donor partners in Norway.

Originally developed in 2009 at St. Olav's Brøset Unit of Scientific Methodological Centre for Forensic Preventive Psychiatry in Trondheim, the programme was created for the Norwegian National Correctional System. It incorporates principles of anger management, cognitive behavioural theory, and motivational interviewing. The programme includes individual and group sessions that run for 12 to 20 weeks, equipping participants with essential skills and competences. In 2022, the programme was introduced in Lithuanian prisons.

We extend our best wishes to our colleagues in successfully implementing the programme and contributing to building a less violent society!
